I’m ready to quit the corporate life

Ok, here we go. I know I’m talking to myself at this point as Google Analytics shows I’m getting a visitor a day (on a good day) but it’s time to get serious and make some money so I can break free of the corporate life. Yes, I’m ready to throw in the towel. I don’t care that my salary is nice and fat (currently in the low six figures) – my soul is being crushed by having to deal with the BS of working for someone else, and gosh darn it…I am going to do something about it.

I want to be financially independent, and I want to generate my income through passive sources of income via the internet. I do not wish to become immensely wealthy – I just want to make enough for my wife and I to maintain our standard of living while saving a little for the future.

But I need a plan before I can write my resignation letter, right? Well that’s easy. Here’s how I’m going to do it:

  • Swing trading. In a nutshell, that means by low, wait for profit, and sell. It’s slow and boring. But it’s profitable with the right amount of patience. You can see by my post history that this blog has been a swing trading journal for several years. I’m just now starting to become mildly profitable, so I’m going to continue with that, as I feel this is my biggest opportunity to make the most money. Besides, working a high-paying corporate job for the last 17 years has given a fairly nice amount of trading capital to work with. Current monthly income: $0 (Some months I’m up big, and some months I lose big. It’s a wash).
  • Stock image production and sales. I work as a designer in the corporate world, and I’ve been producing stock illustrations on the side in my spare time since 2006. I’ve made over $110k doing that through selling my images through various agencies. Most recently, I’ve launched my own site to sell my images on my terms. Current monthly income: $850.
  • Websites. As an accomplished web designer, I have built several small websites in my spare time that can essentially run themselves – which up until this point has been just a hobby. Some of these sites make a handful of pocket change each month from advertising revenues or electronic download sales, but at the time of this writing, I’m not making anywhere near the amount it would take to make me feel comfortable leaving my corporate job. Current monthly income: $35, all from adsense.

So that’s that. This blog has just been morphed to become my online diary to chronicle my path to financial independence. Lots of good stuff to come.
