One of the best and most creative online services to come along in quite some time is Uber. If you’re not familiar with them, they are essentially the next generation taxi service in the sense that they connect passengers with drivers through a mobile app. Payment and tips are handled through the app and not the driver, and Uber takes 15% of the cost – the driver keeps the rest.
While Uber initially started life by hiring professional chauffeurs only, they offer an additional service called Uber X which allows anyone with a clean driving record to become a driver. Yes, it’s that simple! Nearly anyone with a clean late model car can become an Uber X driver. You’ll have to apply (for free) of course, but once accepted you can begin driving immediately. There are no set hours – you work when you want to work, and the amount of money you can make is completely up to you.
Prerequisites for becoming an Uber driver:
The requirements to become an Uber driver are slightly higher than other online part time jobs, primarily because they want to keep this a safe and high quality service. You’ll need:
- A late model mid size car or SUV in good condition
- To be at least 23 years old
- A good driving record
- The ability to pass a background check
- A smartphone with the Uber mobile app
- A great personality and a love of meeting new people
Start up costs:
None, assuming that you already have a late model car that’s in good condition.
Friendly and dependable Uber drivers working in a busy area can earn upwards of $500/day. Keep in mind that is the high end of the spectrum, and most drivers will earn less – but I personally know a few who do this full time that make this kind of money. In the case of Uber, the amount of time you put into it is directly proportional to the amount of money you get out of it.
Uber is a game-changer in the sense that nearly anyone who has a good car can make significant money on their own schedule. And while some may argue that this is not a true online job in it’s purest form, it is part time, and it is completely managed online. You set your own schedule, and there are no offices to work from.
If Uber is operating in your area, it’s definitely worth checking out due to the fact that you’ll be earning money nearly the moment you start working. That’s really hard to beat!
